:D
My best friend and I got matching tattoos, today - matching in that they’re the same words, though our layouts and fonts differ. We used to travel all around to see our favorite bands, no matter of the cost or distance, and over time those trips primarily became, “Let’s go see Rise Against!” Whether they were right here in Cleveland, or playing a festival in New Jersey, we were there. It’s hard to describe what those trips meant to me; the places we saw, the (mostly legal) adventures we had, the amazing people we met, and are still in contact with. My twenties have harbored some of the best times of my life, and so many of them have to do with those shows, and the time spent in cars on our way to see them.
Now, my best friend has just finished basic training for the Air Force. She’s back in Cleveland until next week, and then she ships off to San Antonio, which is where she’ll be for the next three or four years. Somehow, these lyrics just seemed very…appropriate. I don’t know when the next Rise Against show will be, that we’ll be able to catch together, but I have no doubt that there are more in our futures. And this is a nice reminder of that.
(I’ll get a better photo some other time, when it’s not so reflective from the lotion and I don’t have excess ink still on me.)
It seems like every time I try to hide
You pull me up
And give me a reason to try
There’s no one to fight for this truth
So rise and shine
